Canada Pledges $100M in New Aid for Palestinians Amid Rising West Bank Violence

Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand pledged $100 million from the federal government during her visit to Paris to assist Palestinians living in the West Bank and Gaza regions. These funds will be allocated to United Nations agencies and Red Cross for providing Palestinians with health services, food, water, and a peaceful approach at a time when the situation is getting worse due to an increase in violence committed by extremist Israeli settlers. With this most recent contribution, Canada has now provided $500 million to the area since late 2023. Furthermore, Canada along with Britain and Australia has pledged a total of $1.8 million to a peace fund to assist Palestinians and Israelis. At the same time, there is growing criticism from all sides with Palestinians demanding more steps against Israel and Jews claiming such actions can fuel antisemitism.
